New! A video has been made from all of the photo submissions.
Check it

Thanks to everyone who submitted photos to "Show Us Your Moves!".
Check out these
images
of how youth in Manitoba get around, what makes their travel easy,
safe and fun... and what makes it not so great. (If you see one of
your photos here without a title or description, contact

A group of 27 youth got together to discuss the photos and come up
with advice for making transportation more "youth-friendly" in
Manitoba. Here's the
presentation we made to the Centre for Sustainable
Transportation on Feb. 11, 2009. Several youth from Argyle were
involved in the presentation - click
here for the video they made.
About Show Us Your Moves!
Show Us Your Moves! is a project organized by the Manitoba
Environmental Youth Network. It offers Manitoban youth the chance
to record and share their transportation experiences in order to
reflect on how transportation systems in our province can be made
child and youth-friendly.
The results of
Show Us Your Moves! will be shared with the
Centre for Sustainable Transportation of the University of Winnipeg
to assist them in developing “Guidelines for Child- and
Youth-Friendly Land-Use and Transportation Planning for Manitoba”.
Depending on the interest of the participants, the results may also
be used in other ways to raise awareness about the importance of
youth-friendly transportation.
Youth, ages 18 and under, can participate in any or all of the
following parts of the project:
- You can record your transportation experiences
(with photographs and/or written notes) to show examples of
youth-friendly or non-youth-friendly transportation. If your photos
include pictures of people (unless they are too far away to be
recognized), you will need to ask for their permission before
taking the photo, using
this form. To be included in this project, your photos and
notes must be sent to the Manitoba Environmental Youth Network by
January 29, 2009. Photos can be submitted online and notes can be
emailed to erica@mbeconetwork.org. Photos and notes can also be
mailed to or dropped off at the Manitoba Eco-Network (see the
address on the right-hand side of the page.) By uploading or
submitting any photographs, notes, or other content, you grant The
Manitoba Eco-Network and The Manitoba Environmental Youth Network
the right to transmit, publish, display, and duplicate all content
submitted, in any form, without any payment or notice.
- You can participate in a workshop on Jan. 29,
5:00-7:00 or Feb. 3, 12:30-2:30 at the Manitoba Eco-Network, 303
Portage Ave. At this workshop you will help to look at the pictures
and notes collected by youth from across Manitoba and discuss how
transportation could be more youth-friendly in our province. Pizza
and bus tickets will be provided to everyone who comes to these
workshops.
- If you are not in Winnipeg, you can organize a
workshop in your community to look at the pictures and notes
collected by youth from across Manitoba and discuss how
transportation could be more youth-friendly in our province. We
will provide you with discussion questions and cover the cost of
food for the workshop.
- You can offer to work with a few other youth
between Feb. 3 – 11 to prepare a presentation based on the
discussions held at the workshops described above. If you are
selected for this part of the project, you will also have the
chance to help deliver this presentation at a meeting organized by
the Centre for Sustainable Transportation on February 11, 2009 from
8:30 to 9:30 am.
Any youth, age 18 or under, who participates in any part of this
project will be entered in a draw for a prize! To get involved,
contact Erica (erica@mbeconetwork.org, 204-947-6511) to let us know
which part(s) of the project you would like to take part in!
